About the Journal of Dairy Science

Purpose and scope:
Impact Factor: The Journal of Dairy Science is the top-ranked dairy research journal in the world. In 2009, JDS has been ranked by ISI Journal Citation Reports as number 1 of 45 journals in the Agriculture, Dairy and Animal Science category, with an impact factor of 2.486 (2008 data). JDS is also number 1 in the category by the new five-year impact factor, with a score of 2.978. The journal has now ranked in the top five of the Agriculture, Dairy, and Animal Sciences category for eight straight years.

The journal is also highly ranked in the Food Science and Technology category (12th of 107 journals for impact factor and 9th of 107 for five-year impact factor).

Eigenfactor: In 2009, the Journal of Dairy Science was ranked number 1 by Eigenfactor Score (2008 data). Eigenfactor Score is a metric that uses citing journal data from the entire Journal Citation Reports file to reflect the prestige and citation influence of journals by considering scholarly literature as a network of journal-to-journal relationships. Recent volumes of JDS have grown to include more than 500 manuscripts and 5,000 pages per year from authors worldwide.

JDS Joins AGORA
By action of the ADSA Board of Directors, JDS has joined AGORA (Access to Global Online Research in Agriculture), a program of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. By participating in AGORA, the Journal of Dairy Science™ will now be available, free of charge, to institutions in all Band I and Band II countries (countries defined by the World Bank as having a gross national product of up to $3,000, per capita, in 2001).

The AGORA program, set up by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) together with major publishers, enables developing countries to gain access to an outstanding digital library collection in the fields of food, agriculture, environmental science and related social sciences. AGORA provides a collection of 1132 journals to institutions in 107 countries. AGORA is designed to enhance the scholarship of the many thousands of students, faculty and researchers in agriculture and life sciences in the developing world.

Intended readership:
JDS readers represent education, industry, and government, including research, teaching, administration, veterinary medicine, extension, management, quality assurance, product development, and technical services in more than 70 countries. JDS is of interest to those in biochemistry, breeding, economics, engineering, environment, food science, genetics, microbiology, nutrition, pathology, physiology, processing, public health, quality assurance, and sanitation.
